Recent data published by BBC Children in Need found that more than two-thirds of children and young people (68%) aged 11-18 believe that young people’s mental health in general has got worse as a result of the pandemic, with one in three (34%) not feeling comfortable to ask for help if they needed it.
We want to help children, parents and carers by promoting volunteering and sharing links to charities and organisations.
We know that not everything can be fixed quickly or simply however we hope that together we can help those in need of support.
The BBC Happy Heads programme wants to capture the kindness shown by communities across the country who have helped and supported each other during the pandemic.
There’s no doubt that the impact on children has been significant and one of the ways that you can help is by volunteering for an organisation that supports children and young people’s mental health and well-being.
Volunteers at All Saints Youth Project in King’s Heath, Birmingham, support young people across our Youth Activities, including our After School Drop-In sessions, our Gateway to Inclusion evening sessions and our Village Square Outreach sessions all which are run weekly and aim to engage and support young people between the ages of 11-19.
Being an inclusive Youth Project that has been serving the community for over 20 years, Volunteers at All Saints will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people in many different ways. Some of those ways are:
Helping improve young people's mental health by being a point of contact for support for them regularly and consistently, both in session and through our online contact sessions.
Helping develop positive relationships, either in existing peer groups or between young people both new and already part of the youth centre.
Creating a fun, supportive and safe space for young people to grow to feel confident in expressing themselves, being themselves and enjoying themselves.
Supporting and encouraging young people to share their ideas and views with the youth centre, helping create their space in their youth club.
Being confident in All Saints Youth Project's Safeguarding, Inclusivity and Health & Safety policies to provide a safe environment for all young people.
Engaging young people in group and 1-2-1 sessions, getting to know their personalities and their needs to best support them and find ways to provide opportunities for their personal development.
Volunteering at All Saints makes a difference, creates positive change and helps shape the futures for young people.
