WHO WE ARE
We are an inclusive youth project providing recreational and informal educational
opportunities and individual support since 1998. We are constantly developing our work to
meet the needs of young people and their families/carers. Our multi-stranded approach has
established a good reputation with professionals and the community. We are seen as a
reliable service that has maintained its commitment to being family and person centred,
undertaking grass roots delivery, close to the community.
We believe in promoting inclusive practice and being accessible for ALL young people
regardless of their ability or background.
WHO WE HELP
Young people aged 11 to 19 years old (up to 25 for those with disabilities) and their families.
Some of the young people we work with have complex and multiple conditions and
challenges. For many life is difficult with very little hope or aspiration and our aim is to try
and counterbalance this with a range of positive activities and support from an organisation
that values young people and puts their wellbeing first.
Our aim is to enhance the lives of young people and grow their social and personal development. Many of the young people and young adults that we cater for have complex conditions including Downs syndrome, Asperger syndrome and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and mental health issues. Others face behaviour and anger issues, are victims of bullying and/or abuse, being involved in antisocial behaviour, drug and alcohol misuse and crime or on the edge of crime. We also have young people who have the responsibility of being a young carer or are in care.
HOW WE'RE FUNDED
We have been successful in raising the funds necessary to continue and develop our work for the past 20 years. Our income from grant making organisations, local fundraising activities and service level agreements was £198k during 2017-18 and our budget for 2018-19 is £181k. We are very mindful that the bulk of our expenditure (85%) should be spent on direct service delivery and that expenditure (15%) on administration activities should be kept to a minimum. However, we recognise that the external funding environment is ever more challenging, as the various austerity measures begin to impact services.
